Volunteers Needed to Make Protective Masks

The COVID-19-related mask shortage has affected not only hospitals but also confined facilities, such as residential mental health facilities, jails and prisons in the state.  People in confinement (both staff and the population) are at heightened risk of being infected and becoming ‘hot spots’ of sudden and high-density infection, likely to quickly overwhelm the state’s finite ICU resources.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has promulgated “Crisis Capacity Strategies” for use when surgical and N95 face masks are not available; these include the use of cloth masks. These masks  may be reused after daily washing.  Using a template from area physicians, Mississippi Center for Justice has launched an extremely easy-to-use webpage portal that will match requesting facilities with donating mask-maskers. Please consider volunteering and recruiting others.
