In light of the passing of Pope Francis and the anticipated election of a new pope, the Diocese of Jackson has announced a revised publication date for its May newspaper issue. Originally scheduled to go to press on May 2 with a release date of May 9, the issue will now go to press on May 16 and be released on May 23.
This adjustment was made with the support of Bishop Joseph Kopacz to ensure the edition reflects the most current and significant developments in the life of the church. “Given the likelihood that a new pope will be elected before our original release date, we felt it important to delay printing to avoid delivering outdated coverage,” said Joanna King, editor of Mississippi Catholic.
The decision followed consultation with the newspaper’s printer and postage consultant, who both confirmed the revised schedule was feasible.
Advertisers are being notified of the change, and updated rate and date sheets are being posted to both the diocesan and newspaper websites. Notifications are also being shared via the digital edition, social media, parish bulletins, and chancery communications.
In the event of urgent developments prior to the new release date, the diocese will share updates via social media and Flocknote emails.
