Mental Health First Aid Workshop

The Diocese of Jackson’s Office of Family Ministry and Catholic Charities Office of Parish Health Ministry, Mississippi State Department of Health and Belhaven University are co-sponsoring a two day workshop on first aid for mental health. “Mental Health First Aid” (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in your community. It is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, law enforcement, and other caring citizens how to offer initial help to someone who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis.
All are welcome! Two separate trainings will be offered at St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo, MS on August 22nd (Adult Training) and August 23rd (Youth Training) 2019 from 8:00AM – 5:00PM. The workshop will be led by Dr. Bradford Smith, Ph.D., Licensed Phycologist and Certified Instructor. Registration is required and includes: lunch, a comprehensive manual, and a three year MHFA certification. Attending the full program is required to obtain certification. Fee: $10 per class.
