Children are often faced with tough decisions each day. Last year, 20% of 10th graders used drugs—a statistic that Darius understood all too well. He started using drugs in 8th grade, and his family struggled to cope with his behavior. Brianna, his mother, said, “He was very explosive around our family, especially with his younger sisters.”
Darius eventually joined the Catholic Charities Healing Hearts program. When his case manager first met him, he was a shy, non-verbal teenager battling drug addiction. She has worked with Darius and his mother Brianna for over a year, helping him navigate his challenges. Today, Brianna sees a happy teenager who is more playful with his sisters.
Darius shares, “I am now able to say no to drugs. I have confidence in myself, and I know I can always call Healing Hearts for encouragement. I would like to thank you for giving to the Catholic Service Appeal. I can now say that I am drug-free because of your gifts to the Healing Hearts program. Thank you.”
