The costs for one year of seminarian education typically exceed $50,000. Let that sink in.
While grateful to all parishes for supporting priest education, Fr. Nick Adam, Vocation Director for the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, deeply appreciates the financial support each year from the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi in Madison.
Their annual Luella and Floyd Q. Doolittle Memorial Golf Tournament routinely raises more than $20,000 and is a destination outing for many Jackson-area Catholic duffers. This year’s event is set for Saturday, June 14 at Whisper Lake Country Club of Madison.
“It’s a great afternoon of fun and fellowship,” said tournament director and St. Francis parishioner Tunney Vandevender. “But we always have the priest shortage and the staggering costs of seminarian education in mind when reaching out to tournament sponsors.”
“A large chunk of the overall diocesan money comes from the golf tournament, so I want to lend my support in any way I can,” said Fr. Nick, who will give the invocation at this year’s Doolittle Classic. “Please come out and support our seminarians.”
Register online at charitygolftoday.com, or in person the morning of the event. A light lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Longest drive and putting contests will take place at that time.
The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Once all golfers have cleared the course, an awards ceremony will be held just before a gourmet meal is served by the St. Francis Knights of Columbus.
