The Bishop Chanche Award for Youth will be given out by Bishop Kopacz in conjunction with the awarding of the Bishop Chanche Medal on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle. Named for Mississippi’s first Catholic bishop, nominees should be faithful Catholics who have shown exemplary service at the parish and or diocesan level in the areas of evangelization, faith formation and service to the community.

A pastor, parish DRE or youth minister may nominate ONE youth per year from the parish or mission to receive the award.  All submissions must be approved by the pastor or LEM of the parish before submission.

Nomination guidelines:

  • No handwritten forms.
  • Please do not discuss the nomination with your nominee.
  • A committee appointed by the Bishop will select award recipients from the nominees.
  • Nominees should not be informed of their nomination.
  • Nominees will only be informed of their nomination if they should be chosen as a recipient.
  • Nominations should be sent no later than December 18, 2018 to be eligible for selection.

Bishop Chanche Youth Award Nomination

Eligibility: Youth eligible for the Bishop Chanche Youth Award must be 16-18 years of age (or a student in 11th grade, 12th grade, or college freshman class). He/she must be Confirmed or currently enrolled in the Confirmation preparation class. A nominee for this award should be one who lives out their Catholic faith through witness in word and service to others. He/she should be an individual whose faith, leadership, and Christian service plays a significant role in the life of the parish youth community. Please answer the following questions and tell why this young person merits the Bishop Chanche Award. Highlight the nominee’s personal characteristics and provide stories and detailed examples that illustrate the nominee’s character as he or she serves the Church in your community (parish, school, and city). Please be as thorough as possible and use the space provided on this form or additional pages as needed. The review committee is made up of lay people from each deanery. The information you provide helps them to know your nominee.
