Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Noel Prendergast, who died May 26 on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
A visitation and wake service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 9:30–11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m.
He was born Jan. 2, 1934 to his parents, John and Mary Prendergast. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Graiguenamanagh, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland.
His parents and siblings preceded him in death, Ted (Birdie), Father Billy, Kitty (John Joyce), Jack (Miriam), Father Paddy, and Leo (Cally). Cally is his only remaining sister-in-law.
Father Prendergast attended Carlow Seminary in Ireland to complete his studies to become a Catholic priest. He was ordained in June of 1958 for the Diocese of Natchez-Jackson. His first assignment was Nativity Parish in Biloxi. During his priestly ministry he went on to serve parishes in Jackson, Natchez, Vicksburg, Columbus, Yazoo City and Clinton as well as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Vicksburg.
He chose to live in Clinton upon retirement. As his health started to decline, he chose to go to St. Catherine’s Village in Madison.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. We must not forget his dear friends and brother priests.
In lieu of flowers you may donate to Retired Priest Fund or Education of Seminarians.
Eternal rest grant unto him. O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
