Faith Formation Day: One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic

Join us as we prepare for another year of formational ministries on  August 25 for Fall Faith Formation Day to be held at St. Joseph Catholic School in Madison, MS.  The theme of this year’s day is “One. Holy. Catholic. Apostolic!”  We will address all areas of faith formation in the two break out sessions during the day.  Topics covered will include: Family Catechesis, Adult Faith Formation, RCIA, Youth Ministry, Elementary Catechesis, Confirmation, Self-Care, and Protection of Children.  Our first session begins at 10 am and will end at 3 pm.  Lunch is provided.

Our two keynote speakers who will book end the day are HOSFFMAN OSPINO, Phd- Associate Professor of Hispanic Ministry and religious education at Boston College, School of Theology and Ministry and ROBERT FEDUCCIA- A keynote speaker; retreat leader and recognized expert in the New Evangelization.  Robert is also a native of Mississippi and has done many retreats, trainings and youth activities in the Diocese. Both of these speakers will bring their passion for unity as well as their desire to build community.  It is so important that all formative ministries are equipped to meet the challenges and celebrate the gifts of our diverse communities.  We are at a pivotal time in the Church.  Pope Francis reminds us, “We cannot be Christians part-time. If Christ is at the center of our lives, he is present in all that we do.”  Let us take this opportunity to join together renewing our commitment to make Christ present in all that we do.

Below, please find a flyer for the event and a registration form.  Parishes and schools only need to fill out one form and they do not need to send a list of registrants.  However, individuals can register as well.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Peace,

2017 Fall Faith Formation Day

Pastoral Ministries extended retreat

One recurring theme that was brought up at all of the listening sessions with Bishop Kopacz was intentional faith formation for catechist and other lay persons in pastoral ministries including adult faith formation, youth ministry, RCIA and pastoral care.  As we move forward we are evaluating the programs, workshops and retreats provided by the diocese for professional development and catechetical training.  The Pastoral Ministries Workshop is a useful tool to help form and inform Catholic lay leadership for your parish.

That being said, we are pleased to announce the details for the annual Pastoral Ministries Extended Retreat which begins Monday, June 5th after lunch through Thursday, June 8th after lunch.  Retreatants will meet as a group for guided reflections on the 2017-2018 catechetical theme, ” Living as Missionary Disciples.”   The cost for just this extended retreat is $400. This covers 3 nights lodging, 10 meals, and program expense.  Participants may combine the Sunday/Monday retreat with the Extended Retreat for a reduced combo rate of $485.

That being said, we are pleased to announce the details for the annual Pastoral Ministries Retreats and Workshop.

There are three events:
1. Pastoral Ministries Retreat which is from the afternoon of Sunday, June 4 at 3 p.m. through Monday, June 5th after lunch. The cost is $120 for this guided retreat. This covers 3 meals, one night lodging, and program expense.

2. Extended Retreat which begins Monday, June 5th after lunch through Thursday, June 8th after lunch.

3. Pastoral Ministries Workshop which also begins Monday, June 5th after lunch through Thursday, June 8th
after lunch. The Pastoral Ministries Workshop consists of a 5-year certification process for lay ministers. The attached flyer outlines the 5-year workshop series — titles and presenters. Each year builds on the next, so they should be taken in sequence: Year I, Year 2, etc. It is preferred that registrants have at least one year of parish ministry experience. It is required that all new registrants complete an application to the Diocesan Lay Ministry Formation Program before they can attend this Pastoral Ministries Workshop Series. Since this workshop series fulfills part of the requirements for Lay Ministry Formation, partial (1/3) scholarships are available through our office. We suggest that the registrant pay 1/3, the parish pay 1/3 and the diocese pay 1/3 of the cost. The cost of the workshop is $500. This covers 3 nights lodging, 10 meals, and program expense. Participants may combine the Sunday/Monday retreat with the Pastoral Ministries Workshop for a reduced combo rate of $585.

REGISTRATIONS should be returned no later than May 15, 2017 (registration form attached):
o Completed registration form
o Check payable to Catholic Diocese of Jackson but sent to the attention of Office of Faith Formation
o Completed application to Lay Ministry Formation Program (if this has not been previously done)
